Platty + offers safe, friendly and relaxed watersports experiences for everyone. We look forward to sharing the magic of Derwentwater with you!
Back in the mid 80’s John & Sarah Platt began “Platty + Canoe & Kayaks” born of their passion and enthusiasm for paddling and John’s natural talent to inspire and impart his knowledge and skill. They have gradually expanded and built “Platty +” into the wider ranging watersports centre it is today.
Over the years John and Sarah’s 3 boys all worked in the business and although the boys have moved on to greater things, John and Sarah are still there on a daily basis. The staff are a dedicated team of like minded enthusiasts with the same family values and work ethic ensuring you have fun in a safe caring environment, that has been the defining ethos of Platty + all along.
We cater for groups, families and individuals of any nature including those with special needs. We have both a fantastic location and some great facilities, (no changing in a car park for our customers). At Lodore we offer hire and tuition in all sorts of water activities.
All activities are run by appropriately qualified staff and overseen by John and Sarah. (See our accreditations further down this page).
With the majority of lake users staying towards the Keswick end we constantly find ourselves on a quiet and peaceful expanse of lake, the only way to experience the “Queen of Lakes”. We have plenty of perfect little bays to hide away from any weather that might come our way! Our purpose built offices and changing rooms have solar energy providing light and heat and with toilets on site every need is catered for in a green and clean fashion.
To get to us using your satellite navigation use the postcode CA12 5UU. See the map on our contact page. Alternatively, park up in Keswick and catch the Keswick Launch to the Lodore jetty (stop No 3).
Driving: From Keswick take the B5289 Borrowdale road down the East side of Derwentwater. Approximately 3 miles from Keswick on the right hand side is the Mary Mount Hotel. It is quite a small turning just after Kettlewell Car Park – If you get to the Lodore Falls Hotel you have gone too far. Turn in and park towards the bottom of their car park. From here you will see a gate leading into the hotel garden, follow the path along the river, over the bridge and you will see our green building through the trees on the shore next to the jetty.
